Most people go through spring cleaning... me, fall cleaning ;) The last time I started to decorate my house was last fall. Well, I am at it again, but in full force. When we moved in this house three years ago, we went at a few rooms and got everything that we had that would fit in this house right away. Then, we stalled out. Last fall, I got a few more things picked out and that was about it. Well, I am tired of the bear walls and icky paint... I am taking care of business!
First stop: Master bedroom.
I finally picked out a gray. I have had swatches on our wall for over a year. Those had to go and color had to be put up. We went with Repose Gray by Sherwin-Williams. It is a soft gray. Probably a little lighter than I had imagined in my head, but it is so better than that weird clay/beige color. I am not sure how that color ever matched anything. We picked up a few pictures at Home Goods that worked with the colors. These two actually had gold-ish frames. That wasn't going to work for me. So, I spray painted them black. Perfect. The bed isn't quite finished. I really want a warmer comforter to go with the yellow one. Found the perfect one at Marshall's but it was a king. That wasn't going to work for us. So my search continues. Don't mind the messy end-tables. Those need to be flipped around and organized.
Then, there is the "man" corner, as Chris puts it. We both wanted a chair to in the corner there. I wanted something with a fun color and/or print. He wanted leather. He won out because he found his perfect chair before I did. AND it was a sweet deal and super comfy soft. Also found another picture and the perfect fillers for that wall nook. All found at Home Goods too. I still want to find a fun pillow and/or blanket for the chair, and Chris wants a lamp with a little table so he can put his book on it.
We still need to look for a dresser, TV (Chris insists), and a few odds and ends, but I think we made great progress in one week. Finally a room I am happy in! Now, if my hubby can figure out what he is going to do in my master bathroom... I could get my lovely Wheat Grass on my walls in there!
Next stop: Princess Elsie's Room
In my search, I found some cool pom-poms for my little girly girl. She was ESTATIC to have these babies and couldn't wait to get them up. After seeing how easy these things would be to make by myself, I went out and got some blue tissue paper to add an extra bit of pop.
Next stop: Foyer
I have been searching high and low for some fun colorful stuff to put on the mantle. I haven't quite had any luck in that department, but I did find this turquoise vase and fun sticks! A nice pop of color for sure.
Last stop (for now): Kitchen
Do you see it there? That lovely black box? Yes, that is a new dishwasher that actually fits in its spot! HELLO! Fancy, wouldn't you say? I have to say that it makes me very happy not to have to hold my leg underneath the door so that the drawer doesn't fly out. Nice. Very nice.
I also found a cute saying to go above the sink window. I have been searching for the perfect saying for awhile. I was thinking along the lines of "kitchen" or "eating," but found this one at Target that says "The greatest joy in life is to see those you love happy." I loved it and went with it.
AND I finally figured out what I wanted to go on that little skinny wall above the eat-in peninsula thingy. I needed something that popped out a bit because there is a phone jack to hide. I picked up an empty frame at Hobby Lobby with a picture hanging kit that included wire and eyelet screws. I went to town and put this thing together. I backed it with two sheets of pattern paper. Now, I have a spot to display some of my favorite little pictures of the littles.
I still need to find a few more things to add a bit more color in the kitchen, but for now, I am happy.
Not too bad for a weeks worth of decorating! BUT there will be more to come.
And since I am sure most of you reading this are like "that's nice, but what about the kids," I will share this...
We went down to the Square to meet the big Man last night. Elsie was SO HAPPY. Sam, well, he was just happy to be running around in the dark playing. He had no clue why we were really there. Until we finally got to walk through the door of that little Santa Hut. He refused to sit on his lap, until the big Man bribed him with a candy cane. Success. I will have to share that picture with you when they send me them.
We also checked out the big Christmas tree that Elsie points out every time we drive by the square. Then, we headed to the used book store, where they both got to pick out a book. Elsie chose CareBears, and Sam chose a Nemo book. We topped off our night with an ice cream treat. I am pretty sure they both had a pretty fun evening ;)
This one L.O.V.E.S. his mac 'n' cheese. Yes, three helpings later, he was done. The kid eats more than me. AND he gets it everywhere. Yes, it is all over his hair... on the top too. Good thing we just took a bath. UGH.
And the things he thinks are just so cool... well, he is different for sure. He started a pile of cars next to Maggie. Everytime he would add a new car to the mound, he would get excited and pull his hands to his face... very similar to his 'OH! Hands down by his side with his fingers going crazy' thing. He is pretty interesting to watch somedays. Very interesting indeed.
Elsie enjoyed her Halloween celebration at school as a Tiger.
Elsie and Sam loved receiving all kinds of goodies in the mail. Halloween cards and birthday goodies galore. Since Grandma's think alike, Sam was surprised with a "make-up" present from Gram DiDi and Bumpa, and one lucky sister was super surprised when the box was opened. There, on top, laid a lovely surprise of her own; a My Little Pony book for her to read. She was ecstatic, as was Sam!
Then, there was Halloween. We have one Dragon and one Princess Ariel.
And one big beastly crew too. The crew headed out going house to house in search of candy.
Me... I stayed behind this year and manned my station with mini Elsie scarecrow, two jack o'lanterns, and one Maggie Moe. Have I mentioned that my hubby has some mean camera skillz?
Then there is the day after. We had to hit the after Halloween sales, of course. I must say that this is the cutest Spiderman, who just happens to be showing off his big muscles. ANd one cute little muscle princess too.
And then we have the day after that... Yes. These costumes are getting full use-age for sure.
Elsie likes to marry Spiderman and then she tells him to kiss her. Sam is quite the kisser, as you can see.
And of course, we loved sporting our new Vote stickers too.
